Date set for Crockett kidney transplant

Roger will be receiving a much needed kidney from his father, Brian, on November 18th, 2008. Roger was born with a blockage, causing urine to back up and damage his kidneys within his first few days of life. With several surgeries in his first year of life, they were able to repair the area enough for him to get through his youth without needing transplant surgery or dialysis. He has manage to live a full and healthy life so far, however, with his kidney function down below 10%, it is finally time for a kidney transplant. He is slowly exhibiting symptoms and hopes to wait until November for the transplant surgery, to complete the 2008 racing season.
The kidney transplant will take place in Portland, Oregon at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). We are very pleased to have such a wonderful facility and are confident they will be taken care of.
Roger must stay up in Portland for 4 weeks after the surgery to give blood samples three times a week, so this will be a financial burden on the Crockett family. Brian is expected to be able to return home, within one week after the surgery, to Creswell, Oregon.
Once an account is set up for donations, we will update with another blog.
